About Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2011 Single Malt Scotch Whisky About Scotch Scotch is the most popular whisky in the world and is considered the king of them all! There are five whisky regions in Scotland (six if you count the not officially recognized Islands), and each of them produces spirits with unique properties and distinct tasting notes. (The type of grain used determents the type of the scotch.) Malt whisky is made of malted barley, and grain whisky uses other grains like corn or wheat. Most of the time, a whisky is blended from different distilleries hence the name blended scotch, but if a malt whisky is produced in a single distillery, we get something extraordinary called a single malt. Overtly floral and fruity, the nose has soft fruit notes and delicate floral style. Signature Bruichladdich notes of crisp apple and ripe pear, peach and dried apricot are further enhanced with lemon drops, grapefruit and citrus zest, followed by oak and malt, pipe tobacco, vanilla notes, caramel wafers, and ocean spray. Notes of green fruit, apple, pear, and gooseberry evolve into peach, apricot and mango. Oak, vanilla, coconut, citrus zest, profound cereal notes of Islay grown barley. The finish is fruity, with notes of dried apricot, oak, kiwi, caramel wafer and a lingering warm sand, marine note.
